Principles of Agricultural Science—Plant is a foundation-level course teaching students the form and function of plant systems. Students experience various plant science concepts through inquiry-based exercises filled with activities, projects, and problems utilizing laboratory and practical experiences. Student experiences will include the study of plant anatomy and physiology, classification, and the fundamentals of production and harvesting.

A universal cancellation fee of $250 will be charged for registration cancellations made within 30 days of the start of the institute. In situations of no-show registrations without prior notice, the non-refundable fee will be $1000.

Course Credit

Graduate course credit is available for 3-6 semester hours. Contact Dr. Ball, Director of Graduate Studies, for details and tuition rates. Out-of-state participants should be eligible for in-state tuition.


On-site check-in is from 3 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 11 in College Avenue Dorms. The institute begins at 4:15 p.m. on June 11 with a technology briefing in the lab, followed by walking tour and dinner. Classes will be held 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday (6/12) to Friday (6/16). Saturday and Sunday are days off. We will resume class at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 19, and the last class will end on Wednesday, June 21. Lunch will be for one (1) hour each day of the conference.

The University of Missouri is located halfway between St. Louis and Kansas City off I-70. For those traveling by air to Missouri, you can fly into one of three airports: Columbia (COU), St. Louis (STL), or Kansas City (MCI). There are no shuttles from the Columbia airport (which is south of town), but you could either get a taxi or rent a car. There is a shuttle service from either STL or MCI that will take you door to door. Travel is not included in the cost of the CASE Institute.


Housing will be provided in the dormitories on the University of Missouri campus. You will have your own sleeping space, but share a bathroom with one other CASE participant. There are other common areas in the dorm for group work and studying. Wired Internet access is available in the dorm rooms (provide your own Ethernet cable) but wireless access will be provided in the campus buildings and common areas of the dorm. Wireless guest access passwords will be provided when you check into the dorm.

Two meals per day (usually breakfast and dinner) will be provided at the Plaza 900 dining hall. There is a variety of food provided daily. Menus will be provided at; concerns about nutrition and allergies can be investigated via the "Zoutrition" link on the main page.

Your other meal (usually lunch) will be based on an allotment provided on your dining card. This will allow you to choose from numerous restaurants on campus. Those locations, including menus and serving times, are located at
